This artwork is produced under the Australian South Asian Centre . It is a celebration of life, empowerment of women and thriving south asian culture.
Our work is created in the soul house gallery nestled amongst gardens by Australia’s most influential landscape designers – Edna Walling and is the former “fairytale cottage” of Paul Jennings author of Around The Twist. This space was once also a women’s refuge and now is Australia’s first dedicated wellness space for Indian, Pakistani and South Asian women and includes an active artist’s community.
Galahs is a joyous mixed media painting depicting a flock of gregarious Galahs. Combinations of pastel pink, grey and white convey emotions of positivity, beauty and calmness.
Twenty birds feature in this painting. This is representative of the twenty women staying in Soul House when this piece was created. Each free bird is symbolic of a free women.
The Galahs are surrounded by lush greens, deep browns and gold leaf; paying respect to the luscious green world which our exotic Australian birds call home, and also paying tribute to Edna Wallings, the creator of Soul House gardens.
